UK four CD set. Includes the albums Rock Until You Drop (1981), Wiped Out (1982), All For One (1983), and Live At The Inferno. Although Raven's origins date as far back as 1974, they came to the attention of the British rock media with the 1980 release of their debut single, 'Don't Need Your Money'. Hailing from Newcastle, it seemed inevitable that brothers John and Mark Gallagher, on bass guitar/lead vocals and lead guitar respectively, joined by drummer Rob Wacko Hunter, would sign to Newcastle based NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) label Neat Records, alongside other NWOBHM luminaries Venom, Fist and White Spirit. A big influence on future thrash metal legends such as Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, their highly-energized form of speed metal became the self-styled "athletic rock", a genre that would extend to the band wearing of baseball and American football apparel on stage.

Produced by John Hill, "Raven” (1969) was one of those album’s that took awhile to grow. Their sound was buried in blues-rock, with an occasional jazzy interlude, but with an intense, raw edge, that made them somewhat un-commercial. Not that being un-commercial was necessarily bad. Galla had an outstanding voice; gruff and rugged and near perfect for the genre, but like a lot of singers, his natural reaction was to try to power his way out of corners, which occasionally turned things screechy ("Feelin’ Good").

Although Raven were very much part of the NWOBHM of the late ’70s and early ’80s, brothers Mark and John Gallagher had formulated the idea of creating their own rock group way back in 1972. With John on bass and vocals and Mark on lead guitar, they played their first gig in 1975, building up a loyal following across the North East of England. Recording a rudimentary demo in 1978, included here on CD2. Signed to Neat Records, they recorded further demos, by which time they had trimmed down to a power-trio when the Gallaghers were joined by Rob “Wacko” Hunter on drums. Neat would release their debut 45 ‘Don’t Need Your Money’ in 1980 and make Raven the lead act with ‘Inquisitor’ on the cassette compilation, ‘Lead Weight’.

Raven issue 14th full-length studio album Metal City on September 18th, 2020 through Steamhammer / SPV. The outing marks the first Raven studio album to feature Fear Factory drummer Mike Heller, who replaced Joe Hasselvander in 2017. Frontman John Gallagher commented: “Our initial goal was just to raise the bar once more. We did a good job on ExtermiNation [2015] and decided we just wanted more of everything next time. However, things changed once we got Mike on board. Attitude and tempos got revved up a lot! Mike is a ball of energy. He has a good ear and is a big fan of the early albums, especially the crazy feel. He’s kicked us into a higher gear where we feel that we can play anything and everything we write with no restrictions.” Metal City was recorded at Michael Wagner’s WireWorld Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. Mixing and mastering was handled by Chris “Zeuss” Harris.
