Dr. Mabuse and his organization of criminals are in the process of completing their latest scheme, a theft of information that will allow Mabuse to make huge profits on the stock exchange. Afterwards, Mabuse disguises himself and attends the Folies Bergères show, where Cara Carozza, the main attraction of the show, passes him information on Mabuse's next intended victim, the young millionaire Edgar Hull. Mabuse then uses psychic manipulation to lure Hull into a card game where he loses heavily. When Police Commissioner von Wenk begins an investigation of this mysterious crime spree, he has little to go on, and he needs to find someone who can help him.

When Timothy overhears Avilda's plan to adopt Lady Gay and send him to an asylum, he decides to move on, but he lingers to tell Samantha of a man living in a lonely house who calls out "Samanthy." Samantha recognizes him as a former suitor and goes to him. Avilda regrets her harshness toward her sister, who had "followed the primrose path and died in sin." Timothy is retrieved and adopted.

The locals discourage Hutter from traveling to the Count's castle but Hutter proceeds his journey by taking a coach. Due to nightfall, the coachman declines to take him any further than the bridge. Hutter continues his journey alone n aft crossing the bridge, a mysterious coach appears n a mysterious coachman gestures Hutter to climb aboard. Aft leaving Hutter outside the Count's castle, the coach goes away. Hutter is welcomed at the castle by Count Orlok.
