The basics of memory
You understand that in order to increase your muscle strength you have to exercise, the same goes for the real increase in your power to remember things. Your mind needs exercise too. Therefore, your diet must be good, and you have to consider adopting much healthier habits.
Unfortunately, because our brains are so complex, they need a lot of work to keep them in the best shape imaginable. There are a number of things you are able to do that will help improve the capacity of the recovery mechanism in your mind. But first, let's take a look at how we remember things.
How it Works
To put it simply, our memory is the action that takes place in our mind to remember the information we have gained through experiences in our lives. But, it is a complex procedure that involves varied parts of the mind, and serves us all in many different ways. It can be short term or long term.
With short-term memory, you'll discover that your brain is capable of storing certain pieces of information for only a couple of seconds or minutes.
Unfortunately, the problem with this memory is that it is really fragile, and if you had to retain all the data you receive, your mind would soon tell you that you have no more blank space.
Also, each person's short-term memory is only meant to hold about seven items at a time, and that's why, while you may be able to remember a new phone number for a couple of minutes, you'll often find that when you go to buy something online with your credit card, you need it by your side, as it actually has more than 7 items on it.
