Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767), He cast his concertos - almost a hundred are known to exist - in the traditional form of the four-movement suite (slow-fast-slow-fast), but also used the three-movement form established by Vivaldi. Although the slow movements disclose a greater degree of originality, the fast ones are more effective. In some of Telemann's concertos, the character of the themes and the structure of the movements point beyond the Baroque style to the early Classical period (e.g. the last movement of the Concerto for Oboe d'amore). The distinctive harmonies of some of the parts also underscore Telemann's opinion that, although the possibilities of melodic invention may become exhausted, it is always possible to vary the harmony.

The Janacek Quartet, founded in 1947, bears this name since 1949. The ensemble attained wider recognition particularly after its triumphal performance in West Berlin in 1955. But it was only starting in 1956, when it was officially designated as the chamber ensemble of the Brno State Philharmonic Orchestra, that it could fully begin to develop its concert activity Although there have been several changes among the members of the quartet over the years, the ensemble has maintained its artistic continuity as well as its strikingly unique interpretative style. The Janacek Quartet's repertoire contains works of the Classical and Romantic eras and of Impressionism besides the string quartets of eminent 20th-century masters.

The birth of Russian national music culture in the 19th century is closely connected with Glinka. Balakirev was one of the initiators of the group in which musicians of varying creative inclinations & abilities came together. The oriental element is very evident in works by Borodin & he makes effective use of the exotic sound world in his only opera Prince Igor. Rimsky-Korsakov is represented as a composer in his own right on this recording by his overture Russian Easter Festival (1888). Tchaikovsky was not a member of the "Mighty Five", unlike the composers already mentioned, but he too strove to write works in which typical national features were prominent.

Among his repertoire Suk includes works not only by Dvorak, Suk and Beethoven but also by Berg, Janacek and Martinu. Settings of A. Blok's poems occupy a special place in Georgi Sviridov's work. For many years the composer has addressed his favourite poet discovering still newer facets of Alexander Blok's poetry. G. Sviridov has the honour of discovering another great poet of Russia, Sergei Esenin, for music. One of these discovering was "Cast Off Russia".
There is no Esenin's work of the same name. Poetical images created a kind of a large fresco which the composer so masterfully sets in motion with the rhvthms of his music. Music and melody enhance Esenin's poetry, full of images, which is like a song not in genre or form, but as an inherent creative pulse, as an irresistible urge to pour out his feelings in a song.

"Five Choruses to Lyrics by Russian Poets" are five small poems. "Poem in Memory of Sergei Esenin" is one of the 20th-century's major musical compositions. The "Poem" is a highly original composition both in its concept and its artistic embodiment, with a lot of new discoveries. G. Sviridov interpreted anew one of the greatest Russian poetic works of the 20th century. He was able not only to see in Esenin a fine lyricist but a truly national poet, who shared his country's lot during the fateful years of its history. Addressing himself to Esenin. Sviridov was the first to speak seriously in music of the fate of Russian people during the revolution.

L. Timofeyeva is a laureate of International competitions in Montreal and M. Long in Paris. Only a very mature musician can play F. Chopin’s Etudes, especially in a circle. Here L. Timofeyeva has brought out Chopin’s harmonious outlook and the wealth of light colors. Even rueful, tragic works have found their place in the gamut of feelings. Gentle lyricism – this is the main feature of L. Timofeyeva readings. Soft, winsome sound, heartfelt emotion, love of romantic, expressive melody – these features of the pianist’s gift have determined the interpretations of these works.
