is a multi-awarded, long-running and still-ongoing weekly British science fiction-oriented comics anthology that serializes a number of separate stories each issue (called a "prog") that has been at the cutting edge of contemporary pop culture since it’s first publication by IPC Magazines in February 26, 1997. IPC, later Fleetway, continued to produce the title until 2000, when it was bought by Rebellion Developments. Due in part to its weekly publication schedule, it is one of only a few comics to surpass 1,600 issues. It is most noted for its Judge Dredd stories, and has been contributed to by a number of artists and writers who became renowned in the field internationally, such as Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison, Bryan Talbot, Brian Bolland, Garth Ennis and Mike McMahon. I usually start the week's comic posts--Comic Book release Day being Wednesday every week--with the series destined to be the longest-running continuously published regular weekly comic book ever, 2000 AD, simply because it's the one first out. Last week however I failed to do that and instead posted the 2000 AD Halloween Special midway through. That's why I'm posting two successive issues now, last week's and this week's release. The weekly publishing schedule doesn't seem to affect the consistently high quality of the comic, though, perhaps due to its anthology format. And it still serves as the breeding ground and breakout medium for the comics writers and artists of tomorrow. By the way a for this week's Comic book Day: because of the Thanksgiving Holiday in the US, comic book release day was set for the following day, which is today, Thursday, December 3, 2009.
