Beirut Won't Cry (2017)
English | CBR | 265 pages | 228.23 MB

Thus begins the online diary of Mazen Kerbaj, a Lebanese painter, jazz musician, and cartoonist, as bombs rained down on his hometown of Beirut. With airports and bridges bombed, he was trapped in the city and there was little else to do.

Throughout the summer of 2006, during the Israeli aerial bombardment of Lebanon, Kerbaj published drawings, comics, and writing, a creative chronicle during a time of intense and unspeakable brutality. Drawn and written in English, French, and Arabic, Beirut Won’t Cry shows us how an artist views the world and everything in it — his relationships, his family, and his creative pursuits — as it crumbles violently around him. Historically vital and occasionally hilarious, Beirut is Mazen Kerbaj’s first graphic novel translated into English.

Mostly black and white, with a few color pages at the back. Line drawings in a semi-abstract impressionistic style. Interspaced with captions and commentaries and written blog entries.
