This revamp of is a 4-issue mini-series written by Grant Morrison and drawn by Doug Mahnke and published by DC Comics from January to May 2006. It is part of a seven-book inter-related meta-series entitled "Seven Soldiers" all written by Grant Morrison for DC with two bookends, and . Each of these 7 mini-series follow individual art (with different artists), style and character arcs. Frankenstein still is based on Mary Shelley's original creation but is physically and mentally superior, somewhat reminiscent of the title character in the 1931 movie played by screen horror legend Boris Karloff. He even looks a lot like Boris Karloff--or the Marvel Hulk character drawn by comics legend Steve Ditko, for that matter.
