This is the sequel toSpycatcherand features the same main character Will Cochrane, an MI6 (and occasionally CIA) spy who is the Spartan. In this book, he needs to keep a Russian agent from inciting war with the United States. In doing so, he meets the original Spartan agent.
What I really enjoyed about this book is that the action feels real at least realistic for a spy thriller where we expect to suspend disbelief to accept the amazing things the spies do without getting killed. Cochrane works in a team with some U.S. agents who will be familiar to readers of the first book. The action part of the book is really interesting.
But I would have liked more emotional development of Cochrane's character. I know that spy thrillers aren't really about character development and emotional growth, but the author gave us him such an interesting back story and put him through a program he thought he was the only one who ever finished and then he meets someone who can give him a glimpse into his future if he doesn't make some changes. Not to have more emotional growth was a let down for me. The author does the spy stuff really well and I hope he puts more emphasis into the emotions in future books.
But it was still an interesting action-packed read.
