The Return of Brody McBride is the first book of The McBrides by Jennifer Ryan. This is a wonderful book that pulls you into the story and tugs at your heart. The plot seems simple but keeps getting more and more complex as you read. Eight years ago, Brody McBride broke Rain’s heart and left town. No one, not even his brother Owen, knew where he was for a very long time. Finally, Owen found out he was in the military but refrained from contacting him as it seemed Brody did not want to be contacted. Now, Brody is out of the military on a medical discharge and is back in town. He has a simple plan. He wants to build up his ranch and he wants to marry Rain. First, he has to get her to listen to his apology and accept it.
Rain was furious when Brody left. He broke up with her then ended up in bed with Roxy, the town whore. As if that was not enough, he completely severed contact with her and his brother. However, he did leave something behind- two beautiful little girls. Dawn was Rain’s little girl and Autumn was Roxy’s baby. However, Roxy gave Autumn to Rain and she has raised her as her own little girl. After all, she was Brody’s too. Can Rain forgive Brody? Will Brody accept the little girls?
As if this isn’t enough, as Brody and Rain are trying to figure out what to do and how the girls will be handled, Roxy comes back to town. Talk about a mess! What will happen now?
