This electronic textbook is a revision to the textbook, Introduction to Continuum Mechanics which was published by Plenum Press in 1989. A small amount of new material has been added in Chapters 1, 3 and 4. In addition, an effort has been made to correct numerous typographical errors that appeared in the first edition. It is inevitable that other typographical errors creep into the manuscript when it is retyped. I hope there has been a net reduction in these kinds of errors from the first edition to this revised edition .
