Not Fade Away

Not Fade Away celebrates the highs and lows of the Rolling Stones, who have long had the reputation of being the greatest rock'n'roll band in the world.

Forty years ago, in 1969, the Stones were rocked by a crisis — the death of their charismatic former guitarist Brian Jones, who had arguably been the founder of the band. Jones had had an extended battle with drugs and alcohol and was found drowned in his swimming pool. The Stones reacted with a now legendary free concert in Hyde Park, London. Although it was originally designed to showcase new guitarist Mick Taylor who had just joined the band, the Hyde Park concert subsequently became a tribute for Brian Jones, and was to mark a major shift in the standing and popularity of the band.
The program features a core interview with rock critic and journalist Clinton Heylin, editor of The Penguin Book of Rock and Roll Writing, numerous books on punk music, and the major biographer and scholar of the life and work of Bob Dylan. The program also features some rare archival performances and interviews with the Stones and includes material from that legendary free concert in 1969.
