Myth of Invariance: The Origin of the Gods, Mathematics and Music from the RG Veda to Plato by Ernest G. McClain

My book was conceived as a musical companion for FOUR-DIMENSIONAL MAN: The Philosophical Methodology of the Ṛg Veda by Antonio T. de Nicolás. In his first edition of that work de Nicolás showed how a profoundly mathematical logic pervades the sacred hymns of our ancient Hindu "mother" culture, a culture in which sound has remained the primary vehicle of truth. From his general schema I have developed those details familiar mainly to musicians through their experience with tuning theory. De Nicolás has freely shared his insights into ancient and modern Indian cultures, making available both his personal library and his unpublished manuscripts, so that what is offered here is essentially a progress report on a continuing dialogue between a philosopher and a musician. The work has grown beyond its intended scope— reaching now into Sumerian, Babylonian, Egyptian and Hebraic mythology— largely on account of the extraordinary fecundity of de Nicolás' ideas and his untiring personal support.
