A report by The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), found
rooms in newly built dwellings similar to those of a underground
train carriage. The report indicated that these spaces would result in
negative psychological experiences. This study therefore aims to
understand the psychological effects of space in dwellings, by
studying the characteristics of architectural space and psychology.
The spatial characteristics of architectural space, investigated are
colour and spatial dimensions. Their effects on human behaviour are
then studied by analysing three characteristics of psychology:
perception, use and behaviour in space. Understanding the historical
development of dwellings is crucial to understanding the
psychological effects of space.
