The Kama Sutra is the world's oldest known book concerning the pleasures of sensual life. It has been a work in progress for thousands of years and therefore it can be contributed to no one single author for its creation. It was initially compiled in the third century by Indian sage Vatsyayana, who resided in northern part of India. Vatsyayana it was said was a celibate monk, however this work of compiling all the existing knowledge of sexual relations was for him a type of meditation and contemplation of his maker’s greatest gift.

Written in a complex form of Sanskrit, the Kamasutra remains to this day the only surviving written account of that period in Indian history. The title “Kama Sutra”, literally translates as "a treatise on pleasure." In it’s larger context the original work is far more complex than a simple collection of contortions and sexual positions, the Kama Sutra gives us an in depth manual for living for the good life.

The basic intention of the Kama Sutra postulates that in order for marriages to be happy and long lasting, both the man and woman should be well-versed in the art and application of pleasure, both mental and physical.
