This is the first installment in a series dedicated to using Maya Software to create Dynamic FX simulations. The techniques presented in this series have been used in numerous Film and television projects over the years during my role as an FX artist working in Post Production. To start the series, I am presenting a technique developed to produce a Sparks FX rig that is production ready, with a wide range of uses and functionality.

Creating sparks is a very common "Bread and Butter" type of effect that all aspiring FX artist will need to know. Even experienced FX artists can learn new things from this material, as all artists create rigs in a unique and different way from each other. I look forward to adding more to the series to help aspiring artists see what a real workflow and setup looks like, and hope to shed some light on what can be a very technical and challenging discipline to learn.
