Description
In this course you will learn much about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) such as what is CBT, who founded it, and practical ways to put it to use.You will also learn about a CBT Therapy session and some of the aspects that are included in the structure of a CBT session. In addition to the aspects mentioned in a Session’s structure, Coping Skills are also included in a CBT session. According to various CBT manuals, there is or should be a certain structure to the CBT sessions which contain many of the elements mentioned in this course. We will also examine a Case Study Example using the 5 Areas Model a type of CBT assessment. You will learn about the Cognitive Model which is a part of CBT's psychoeducation and see some examples of practicing using the Cognitive Model. You will learn about Core Beliefs, Thinking Errors, and Unhelpful Thinking Styles another form of Thinking Errors seen in many individuals in particular those who suffer from mood, trauma and anxiety disorders. This course will explain the difference between CBT concepts, Cognitive Challenging, Cognitive Refocusing, Cognitive Reframing & Cognitive Restructuring. You will learn about Socratic Questions the primary technique questions used to challenge thoughts in order to bring about Cognitive Reframing & Restructuring. Other interventions the course will cover would be the Thought Log, a key component in CBT interventions. The course will cover Relaxation which is an important part of CBT as well as many other Therapies. Relaxation exercises are included from some of my other courses such as Emotional Intelligence & Schema Therapy. I also brought in some additional Coping Skills from my Emotional Intelligence Course. The use of Deep Breathing is often used in CBT as well. We can use Deep Breathing as a part of Cognitive Refocusing as a Mindfulness intervention to refocus thoughts on breathing. Lastly, I included some DBT Coping Skills. DBT or Dialectal Behavioral Therapy is another version of CBT that is used primarily for individuals who struggle with emotional regulation such as those diagnosed with Bipolar and other more severe mood disorders. This course is rich in resources, so you are encouraged to check the resources section of each lecture in order to find the corresponding resource, worksheet, or handout. Please note that this course isn’t all inclusive of every aspect of CBT although I am pretty confident we cover a great deal of the subject here. Trainings in various topics may be offered through an individual or agency in order to assist you in broadening your knowledge base of that topic however, I want to make it clear that this course in no way constitutes any type of degree, diploma, or certification in CBT. If you are looking for a way to describe your new knowledge base after you have completed this course and obtained your certificate, one student described it was "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Informed" which would be the most accurate view. It should also be noted that certificates are not made available until all quizzes and assignments are completed. You would need a laptop or personal computer in order to assess assignments and quizzes.Welcome to this Course on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
