Trainer: Ellery Connell

Ellery Connell is a professional artist, 3D designer, educator, and trainer. He has worked for over 10 years as a 3D modeler and animator for clients such as CBS, Simon & Schuster, the Utah Jazz, Star Trek Magazine, and Caesar’s Palace and the Bellagio in Las Vegas. He has a master of fine arts degree in animation and visual effects from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, has taught 3D modeling, animation, and game design at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and is currently teaching at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University. He is a featured presenter for the modo online user group.

Trainer: Dariush Derakhshani

Dariush Derakhshani is a VFX and CG supervisor in Los Angeles and an award-winning CG generalist-lighter. He has been an animator and supervisor on commercials and feature films for close to 15 years at such places as Pixomondo, Zoic, Radium|ReelFX, Café FX, Rhythm and Hues, Sight Effects, and the hit show South Park.

Academically, Dariush earned a BA degree from Lehigh University in Architecture and Theatre and also holds an MFA degree in Film, TV, and Computer Animation from USC Film School. An ardent believer in the power of education, he has been teaching in a professional capacity since 1993, offering Maya and visual effects classes for 12 years for schools such as UCLA Extension, the Art Institute of California, and Gnomon. He is also the author of several Maya books, including the bestselling series Introducing Maya, now in its ninth edition and translated into numerous languages.

Dariush is currently Adjunct Faculty with the University of Southern California’s prestigious film school, where he teaches regularly. He is an active member of the Visual Effects Society and is a proud VES Awards nominee. He has also won a London Advertising Award for commercial effects, is a multiple recipient of the Telly and Addy Awards, and has won the Bronze Plaque from the Columbus Film Festival.
