Understanding of 3G technology
Description
This course provides a learning path to understand the Radio Resource Management (RRM) functions in UMTS. RRM in UTRAN provides a means to manage (e.g., assign, reassign, and release) radio resources in single and multi-cell environments. Our main focus will be to understand the cell procedures which involves comprehending what actually happens when a User Equipment (UE) is switched on. Cell search Process : UE shall make measurements on all the frequency bands, synchronisation with the network follows, and Scrambling code selection process. Successful execution of the cell search and selection procedure as well as acquiring initial system information is essential for the UE before taking further steps to communicate with the network.PLMN Selection and Cell selection Process - Which involves selection of th PLMN and Cell selection using S- Criteria.Understanding the RRC states in UMTS - 3GPP has designed RRC to function in different modes: Idle and Connected. The connected mode is further categorized into four states: Cell-DCH, Cell-FACH, Cell-PCH and URA-PCH.Understanding the paging process in idle as well as connected mode : There are two kinds of paging messages in UMTS, Paging Type 1 and Paging type 2. Paging Type 1. This message will be sent to the UE, when UE is either in Idle State, Cell PCH State or URA PCH State.
