These books is part of a series of supplementary books on English language skills aimed at adults and young adults.

This is a listening skills book for elementary students based on topics and situations (recorded on an accompanying cassette) specially selected for their level. It aims to develop students' confidence to listen to and understand spoken English. The recorded material includes a variety of topics, conversations, stories, discussions and interviews. It includes a range of different accents and spoken styles to prepare students for the reality of contemporary English, together with graded tasks designed to focus listening and improve students ability to listen for different purposes. Each unit topic also includes a follow-up writing task.
A pre-intermediate text which uses naturalistic languge and includes plenty of redundancy and repetition to help students learn to listen to longer texts. There is a strong focus on listening for pleasure and on the media in general. Tasks develop listening for gist and specific details.
Each book is divided into units designed to last for a lesson of approximately 50 minutes and includes a grid describing the skills, topic and language functions covered in each unit. It comprises 20 two page units based on taped material at intermediate level. There are a variety of listening topics such as a story, interview, discussion, monologue, news report and lecture based on authentic or stimulated authentic material. Integrated activities covering pre-listening tasks and discussion based on listening for gist and specific information, prediction and writing tasks based on topics are included. The book includes tapescripts, teacher's notes and removable answer key.
