Swarm Intelligence: Introduction and Applications

Swarm Intelligence: Introduction and Applications by Christian Blum (Dr), Daniel Merkle (Dr)
English | PDF | 2008 | 283 Pages | ISBN : 3540740880 | 11.8 MB

Swarm intelligence is a modern arti?cial intelligence discipline that is c- cerned with the design of multiagent systems with applications, e.g., in - timization and in robotics. The design paradigm for these systems is fun- mentally di?erent from more traditional approaches. Instead of a sophisticated controller that governs the global behavior of the system, the swarm intelligence principle is based on many unsophisticated entities that cooperate in order to exhibit a desired behavior. Inspiration for the design of these systems is taken from the collective behavior of social insects such as ants, termites, bees, and wasps, as well as from the behavior of other animalsocietiessuchas?ocksofbirdsorschoolsof?

Mechanical Vibration: Where Do We Stand?

Mechanical Vibration: Where Do We Stand? by Isaac Elishakoff
English | PDF(True) | 2007 | 487 Pages | ISBN : 3211685863 | 21.6 MB

''There is always a delightful sense of movement, vibration and life"". Theodore Robinson (1852-1896) "/ have never solved a major mechanical or interpretive problem at the keyboard. I have always solved it in my mind". Jorge Bolet (1914-1990) The idea of this book stems from the realization that scientists, not unlike laymen, should occasionally interrupt their regular work and reflect on the past, to see both the accomplishments and the drawbacks, so as to be able to plan for future research in the "proper" perspective. But an inquisitive reader may ask: Can one really document in any field, let alone mechanical vibrations (whose very name signifies change), ''where do we stand"? Did not a Greek philosopher famously claim that one cannot enter a river twice? Another, on an even more sophisticated note, added that actually it is impossible to enter a river even once!

Intelligent Infrastructures by Rudy R. Negenborn, Zofia Lukszo, Hans Hellendoorn
English | PDF | 2010 | 545 Pages | ISBN : 9048135974 | 17.3 MB

Society heavily depends on infrastructure systems, such as road-traffic networks, water networks, electricity networks, etc. Infrastructure systems are hereby considered to be large-scale, networked systems, that almost everybody uses on a daily basis, and that are so vital that their incapacity or destruction would have a debilitating impact on the defense or economic security and functioning of society. The operation and control of existing infrastructures such as road-traffic networks, water networks, electricity networks, etc. are failing: too often we are confronted with capacity problems, unsafety, unreliability and inefficiency. This book concentrates on a wide range of problems concerning the way infrastructures are functioning today and discuss novel advanced, intelligent, methods and tools for the operation and control of existing and future infrastructures.

Design and Use of Serious Games by Marja Kankaanranta, Pekka Neittaanmäki
English | PDF (True) | 2009 | 205 Pages | ISBN : 1402094957 | 23.4 MB

During the last few years, a new area of creative media industry, namely Serious Games, has started to emerge around the world. The term serious games has become more popular for example in the fields of education, business, welfare and safety. Despite this, there has been no single definition of serious games. A key question, what the concept itself means, has stayed unsolved though most have agreed on a definition that serious games are games or game-like interactive systems developed with game technology and design principles for a primary purpose other than pure entertainment.

Attachment Ventilation Theory

Attachment Ventilation Theory by Angui Li
English | PDF EPUB | 2023 | 204 Pages | ISBN : 9811992584 | 72 MB

This book systematically summarizes the current research progress of attachment ventilation, covering vertical wall attachment, column attachment, and adaptive attachment ventilation. Attachment ventilation is a high-performance ventilation mode that was first proposed by the author, Prof. Angui Li 20 years ago. Now it has been widely used in office spaces, subway stations, high-speed railway stations, international airport terminals, and other large spaces. This book introduces attachment ventilation in detail to eliminate the cooling/heating load of the occupied zone and provide an expected environment for the air-conditioned zone. Attachment ventilation combines the advantages of traditional mixed ventilation and displacement ventilation. This book consists of six chapters, covering a series of airflow patterns, mechanisms, parameter correlations, and attachment ventilation design methods. It is helpful for HVAC engineers to design attachment ventilation effectively.

Subjektive Wahrnehmung und Bewertung fahrbahninduzierter Gier- und Wankbewegungen im virtuellen Fahrversuch by Minh-Tri Nguyen
Deutsch | PDF | 2020 | 121 Pages | ISBN : 3658302208 | 7.8 MB

Importance Sampling: Applications in Communications and Detection by Rajan Srinivasan
English | PDF | 2002 | 252 Pages | ISBN : 3540434208 | 15.5 MB

This research monograph deals with fast stochastic simulation based on im portance sampling (IS) principles and some of its applications. It is in large part devoted to an adaptive form of IS that has proved to be effective in appli cations that involve the estimation of probabilities of rare events. Rare events are often encountered in scientific and engineering processes. Their charac terization is especially important as their occurrence can have catastrophic consequences of varying proportions. Examples range from fracture due to material fatigue in engineering structures to exceedance of dangerous levels during river water floods to false target declarations in radar systems. Fast simulation using IS is essentially a forced Monte Carlo procedure designed to hasten the occurrence of rare events. Development of this simu lation method of analysis of scientific phenomena is usually attributed to the mathematician von Neumann, and others. Since its inception, MC simula tion has found a wide range of employment, from statistical thermodynamics in disordered systems to the analysis and design of engineering structures characterized by high complexity. Indeed, whenever an engineering problem is analytically intractable (which is often the case) and a solution by nu merical techniques prohibitively expensive computationally, a last resort to determine the input-output characteristics of, or states within, a system is to carry out a simulation.
