A Theory of Housing Provision under Capitalism

A Theory of Housing Provision under Capitalism by Mike Berry
English | PDF,EPUB | 2023 | 254 Pages | ISBN : 3031244702 | 5 MB

This book provides the first coherent Marxist analysis of the central importance of housing in the social reproduction of capitalism as a whole. Rather than consigning housing to the sidelines, Berry argues that the circulation of capital and revenues though housing and the built environment helps explain how the capital-labour relation constrains housing outcomes while also being reproduced on an extended scale. He shows how housing is provided by the intervention of building, property and interest-bearing capital fractions; how the land question can be explained by a theory of urban land rent, drawing on Marx's categories of differential and monopoly rent; how housing is vital to the extended reproduction of labour power, while also creating a semi-separate sphere of 'home' in which gender and demographic factors overlay and accentuate social class position. The modes, impact and drivers of state intervention in housing provision are seen to modify the patterns and pace of capital circulation through housing and the urban built environment with implications for shifts in class fragmentation and power relations.

Explorations in Marx’s Theory of Price—Why Marx Is Still Relevant for Understanding the Modern Economy: Volume I: Money and Money Prices by Howard Nicholas
English | PDF,EPUB | 2023 | 327 Pages | ASIN : B0BRGVXMVZ | 4.6 MB

This book is the first volume in a three-volume series that takes an in-depth look at the relevance of Marx's economics for understanding the modern economy. The focus of this volume is the money prices of commodities. In light of the failure of central banks to stimulate inflation through printing of money, it is now accepted that there are problems with the mainstream approach to the explanation of prices. Howard Nicholas underlines the shortcomings of this and other approaches to the explanation of prices, particularly their concepts of the value of the commodity and money.

The Theory of Accumulation: A Marxian Approach to the Dynamics of Capitalist Economy by Nobuo Okishio
English | PDF | 2022 | 315 Pages | ISBN : 9811679045 | 3.5 MB

This book treats the mechanisms of growth and cycles in capitalist economies in a unified manner, incorporating a highly original macro-dynamic theory based on Marxian micro-foundations and historical perspectives. That theory was developed about 50 years ago by Nobuo Okishio (1927–2003) and included the ideas of Keynes and Harrod. In mainstream economics, it used to be standard to analyse long-term economic growth and business cycles in different frameworks. That approach has been changing recently, but it still tends to be common to discuss them separately.
