Statistical Analysis and Data Display: An Intermediate Course with Examples in S-Plus, R, and SAS by Richard M. Heiberger , Burt Holland
English | PDF | 2004 | 739 Pages | ISBN : 1441923209 | 53.1 MB

1 Audience Students seeking master's degrees in applied statistics in the late 1960s and 1970s typically took a year-long sequence in statistical methods. Popular choices of the course text book in that period prior to the availability of high speed computing and graphics capability were those authored by Snedecor and Cochran, and Steel and Torrie. By 1980, the topical coverage in these classics failed to include a great many new and important elementary techniques in the data analyst's toolkit. In order to teach the statistical methods sequence with adequate coverage of topics, it became necessary to draw material from each of four or five text sources. Obviously, such a situation makes life difficult for both students and instructors. In addition, statistics students need to become proficient with at least one high-quality statistical software package. This book can serve as a standalone text for a contemporary year-long course in statistical methods at a level appropriate for statistics majors at the master's level or other quantitatively oriented disciplines at the doctoral level. The topics include both concepts and techniques developed many years ago and a variety of newer tools not commonly found in textbooks.

English | PDF | 2006 | 363 Pages | ISBN : 0817643656 | 3.2 MB

Lagrangian expansions can be used to obtain numerous useful probability models, which have been applied to real life situations including, but not limited to: branching processes, queuing processes, stochastic processes, environmental toxicology, diffusion of information, ecology, strikes in industries, sales of new products, and production targets for optimum profits. This book presents a comprehensive, systematic treatment of the class of Lagrangian probability distributions, along with some of its families, their properties, and important applications.

Probability Essentials by Jean Jacod
English | PDF | 2004 | 247 Pages | ISBN : 3540438718 | 1.8 MB

We have made small changes throughout the book, including the exercises, and we have tried to correct if not all, then at least most of the typos. We wish to thank the many colleagues and students who have commented c- structively on the book since its publication two years ago, and in particular Professors Valentin Petrov, Esko Valkeila, Volker Priebe, and Frank Knight. Jean Jacod, Paris Philip Protter, Ithaca March, 2002 Preface to the Second Printing of the Second Edition We have bene?ted greatly from the long list of typos and small suggestions sent to us by Professor Luis Tenorio. These corrections have improved the book in subtle yet important ways, and the authors are most grateful to him.

Lazar Mayants is a recent Russian emigre noted for his work in theoretical physics. He was previously a professor at several universities of the Soviet Union and a distinguished member of the Academy of Sciences of the U.S.S.R, where he worked for about 30 years. In this book he presents a unique, extremely detailed, and embracive version of a subject that has suffered for a long time from numerous internal imperfections.
