    QRD-RLS Adaptive Filtering

QRD-RLS Adaptive Filtering by José Antonio Apolinário
    English | PDF (True) | 2009 | 359 Pages | ISBN : 0387097333 | 6 MB

I feel very honoured to have been asked to write a brief foreword for this book on QRD-RLS Adaptive Filtering–asubjectwhichhas been close to my heart for many years. The book is well written and very timely – I look forward personally to seeing it in print. The editor is to be congratulated on assembling such a highly esteemed team of contributing authors able to span the broad range of topics and concepts which underpin this subject. In many respects, and for reasons well expounded by the authors, the LMS al- rithm has reigned supreme since its inception, as the algorithm of choice for prac- cal applications of adaptive ltering. However, as a result of the relentless advances in electronic technology, the demand for stable and ef cient RLS algorithms is growing rapidly – not just because the higher computational load is no longer such a serious barrier, but also because the technological pull has grown much stronger in the modern commercial world of 3G mobile communications, cognitive radio, high speed imagery, and so on.

Natural Image Statistics: A Probabilistic Approach to Early Computational Vision.

Natural Image Statistics: A Probabilistic Approach to Early Computational Vision. by Aapo Hyvärinen , Jarmo Hurri , Patrik O. Hoyer
    English | PDF (True) | 2009 | 450 Pages | ISBN : 1848824904 | 9.7 MB

Aims and Scope This book is both an introductory textbook and a research monograph on modeling the statistical structure of natural images. In very simple terms, “natural images” are photographs of the typical environment where we live. In this book, their statistical structure is described using a number of statistical models whose parameters are estimated from image samples. Our main motivation for exploring natural image statistics is computational m- eling of biological visual systems. A theoretical framework which is gaining more and more support considers the properties of the visual system to be re?ections of the statistical structure of natural images because of evolutionary adaptation processes. Another motivation for natural image statistics research is in computer science and engineering, where it helps in development of better image processing and computer vision methods. While research on natural image statistics has been growing rapidly since the mid-1990s, no attempt has been made to cover the ?eld in a single book, providing a uni?ed view of the different models and approaches. This book attempts to do just that. Furthermore, our aim is to provide an accessible introduction to the ?eld for students in related disciplines.

Nonlinear Digital Filters: Principles and Applications

Nonlinear Digital Filters: Principles and Applications by I. Pitas , A. N. Venetsanopoulos
    English | PDF | 1990 | 402 Pages | ISBN : 0792390490 | 36.7 MB

The function of a filter is to transform a signal into another one more suit able for a given purpose. As such, filters find applications in telecommunica tions, radar, sonar, remote sensing, geophysical signal processing, image processing, and computer vision. Numerous authors have considered deterministic and statistical approaches for the study of passive, active, digital, multidimen sional, and adaptive filters. Most of the filters considered were linear although the theory of nonlinear filters is developing rapidly, as it is evident by the numerous research papers and a few specialized monographs now available. Our research interests in this area created opportunity for cooperation and co authored publications during the past few years in many nonlinear filter families described in this book. As a result of this cooperation and a visit from John Pitas on a research leave at the University of Toronto in September 1988, the idea for this book was first conceived. The difficulty in writing such a monograph was that the area seemed fragmented and no general theory was available to encompass the many different kinds of filters presented in the literature. However, the similarities of some families of nonlinear filters and the need for such a monograph providing a broad overview of the whole area made the project worthwhile. The result is the book now in your hands, typeset at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Toronto during the summer of 1989.

Acoustics Dictionary: Quadrilingual: English, German, French, Dutch by Walter Reichardt
    English/Deutsch/Français/ | PDF | 1983 | 106 Pages | ISBN : 9024727073 | 26.2 MB

Interest in acoustics continues to increase. Although this branch of science was concerned primarily with the promotion of qualitative and quantitative sound transmission until a few decades ago, emphasis is currently placed also on the limitation of sound nuisance and, by extension, the setting of boundaries for permissible sound levels in places \vhere people are found. This last aspect in particular is exercising more and more influence on the design of buildings and machines, and in town and country planning. In addition, sound vibrations, because of their physical characteristics, are being used increasingly in disparate disciplines such as navigation, medical investigation and non destructive materials research. The flood of publications resulting from this increased interest in acoustics has led to a growing number of people being confronted with terminology which had until quite re cently only been used by a relatively small group of specialists and had remained largely unknown as a result. This four language dictionary, based on 'W. Reichardt, Technische Akustik; Berlin 1979', has been compiled to make not only this literature but also the nomenclature of equipment and instructions for their use accessible to the specialist and the interested layman.

Recent Advances in Fourier Analysis and Its Applications by J. S. Byrnes, Jennifer L. Byrnes
    English | PDF | 1990 | 675 Pages | ISBN : 0792308751 | 46.7 MB

This volume contains papers presented at the July, 1989 NATO Advanced Study Institute on Fourier Analysis and its Applications. The conference, held at the beautiful II Ciocco resort near Lucca, in the glorious Tuscany region of northern Italy, created a dynamic in teraction between world-renowned scientists working in the usually disparate communities of pure and applied Fourier analysts. The papers to be found herein include important new results in x-ray crystallography by Nobel Laureate Herbert Hauptman, the application of the new concept of bispectrum to system identification by renowned probabilist Athanasios Papoulis, fascinating appli cations of number theory in Fourier analysis by eminent electrical engineer Manfred R. Schroeder, and exciting concepts regarding polynomials with restricted coefficients by foremost mathematical problem solver Donald J. Newman. The remaining papers further illustrate the inherent power and beauty of classical Fourier analysis, whether the results presented were sought as an end in themselves, or whether these classical methods were employed as a tool in illustrating and solving a particular applied problem. From antenna design to concert hall acoustics to image and speech processing to unimodular polynomi als, each conference participant benefited significantly from his or her exposure, in many cases for the first time, to those scientists on the other end of the spectrum from them selves. The purpose of this volume is to pass those benefits on to the reader.
