Media Anthology : A Critical Reader - Visualising Mass Media From a Macro Perspective

The Communication discipline is both one of the oldest and one of the newest academic disciplines. Its roots date back to ancient Greece, when rhetoric - the study of discovering and using "the available means of persuasion" - was an important part of the citizenry's education. By the beginning of the 20th century, its ambit grew to include oral interpretation, interpersonal communication, small group communication, and mass communication. The scholars realised the importance of other forms of human communication, apart from public speaking to warrant in-depth and systematic study. Today the discipline encompasses intercultural communication, gender communication, organizational communication, performance studies, educational communication, family communication, health communication, political communication, and the study of communication in other specific contexts.

Information literacy is an integral aspect as well as a critical weave of our social and academic fabric. Therefore, it is of little surprise that ‘Research’ is a subject diligently taught at most universities around the world.
