Learn the basics of music in 5 easy steps

Are you just starting out to play an instrument or sing? Can you sing in tune but can't sing from the score right away unless you play it to hear it first?

Whether you are an instrumentalist or singer, the ability to interpret musical symbols and notation on the score is important.

It is common for musicians to read and play from the notation in order to know what it sounds like. The secret to reading music is to be able to read and hear the rhythm and pitches in your head before you sing or play them. In this introductory course, you will learn to aurally identify simple rhythmic patterns and 2 intervals in simple songs with only just 3 pitches. Using simple tools such as solfege and hand signals, you will gain a clear understanding of how each interval will sound and how to recognise each interval on the stave. You will also discover how to play these 2 intervals on the piano.

As well as listening skills, this course also goes into reading in solfege and stave notation. You will then be able to apply these 2 skills to sight read simple melodies with solfege and traditional notation using letter names. You will also practise writing out simple melodies on the stave to reinforce the sounds of each interval.

This course would be suitable for beginner musicians who has zero to very limited musical experience, who wants to develop their music notation reading and singing ability.
