There is no such thing as a field recording. Or perhaps it is more accurate to say that all capture of audio constitutes a recording of the field. To conceive of one’s studio as distinct from the outside world is reductive - us bed sleepers, us gasoline burners inherently inhabit the Earth. Acoustic panels, architecture, isolation booths - all exert some level of control over what gets in the microphones, but no recording is truly pristine, somewhere they crackle and buzz. Then they’re played back on technology made of elemental metals pulled from dirt. You might as well be aiming your condensers at the trees.

The music on this record is a reflection of journeys and travel. The real world kind and the metaphorical ones as well. Having experienced the arrival of my children, the decline and departure of my parents, and the many years of venturing out and returning home in my own life, travel feels like the perfect tropology to consider the mysteries we inhabit. Travel and Its impressions, rituals, superstitions-the possibilities and risk-all open up onto the landscape of our biggest questions, fear and wonder.

A mythic and introspective work, Syrr (Arabic for “secret”) transforms memory, loss, and lived experience into a shifting world of sound, voice, and embodied emotion. Written and composed by Maryam Saleh, a luminary of Egypt’s alternative music scene, the album traces a journey in which the self is fractured, questioned, reassembled, and ultimately expanded. Blending raw lyrical expression with subtle dramatics, Saleh crafts an immersive sonic autobiography rooted in intuition, embodiment, and human becoming.

This digitally remastered reissue of Guru Guru's 1975 album also includes "From Another World," a live bonus track. The stylistically wide-ranging set features blues pianist Champion Jack Dupree, as well as Krautrock pioneers and Cluster members Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius, and runs the gamut from blues to free-form, acid-influenced electronica that predates later artists' experiments with ambient music.

Franz Schubert’s (1797–1828) String Quintet in C Major is one of the final works of that composer’s even shorter life. Once again, the exact date of composition in 1828 is unknown, although it could have been composed possibly as early as April of that year, but it is thought that it was more likely to have been during the late summer months. There is mention of the work in a letter dated 2 October to the publisher Heinrich Albert Probst (with whom Schubert had been negotiating publication of his Piano Trio in E-flat). The letter opens with Schubert expressing anxiety over the delay in the Trio’s publication and goes on to mention ‘three sonatas for piano solo to be dedicated to Hummel. Also I have set several songs by the Hamburg poet Heine which were very well appreciated here, and lastly composed a Quintet for two violins, viola and two cellos. I have played the sonatas with great success, but the quintet is still to be tried out. Let me know if any of these pieces would interest you’.

Our third album, Larking About, is an exploration of more eclectic soundscapes than has been presented before. As we have went through line-up changes, we have eschewed the traditional sound of drums, guitars, and bass. Instead, we have built these songs from tape loops, resampling, and acoustic instruments, resulting in a greater focus on recording technique and panning. The majority of the songs on the album have been processed during the past year and a half, serving as an experimental and ambient counterpart to the songs we usually perform live. The result, we feel, is an album that thrives on anticipation and tension.
