VISITOR is a six-record (and growing!) solo series by drummer Bobby Previte. Each record features music performed not on his "main" instrument, the drum set, but on an instrument he does not normally perform in public. Previte (the “visitor”) restricted himself to recording music he could only play live, in real time, with no overdubbing. VISITOR asks a question: Can someone proficient on one instrument make compelling music on a different one?

What parts of our musical abilities are enhanced/driven by the physical instruments themselves? What parts can be separated out from those instruments? Might music played on unfamiliar instruments be in some ways free from the inevitable clichés and other traps that lie in wait for all of us who are very comfortable with an instrument they have played all their lives? Can this music somehow connect with something more primary because the security of the familiar has been taken away? We are about to find out.
