Already in the 50ies and 60ies, Horst Lippmann with Lippmann+Rau Konzertagentur organized concert tours of black American Jazz, Blues, Folk and Gospel artists in Germany and neighboring countries, when black music was still widely ignored by the white population of the USA. This release was recorded on occasion of one of these engagements, LP 1 was recorded live, LP 2 contains studio recordings. Frankfurt was the main base of the American Forces in Europe, many American visitors add to the atmosphere of the concert. On organ Klaus Doldinger, some call him the most important German Jazz keyborder, and on bass Lothar Meid of Krautrock fame. A year before, in 1967, already another record with the Robert Patterson Singers, Gospel Meeting Tonight, was recorded in Germany and released on MPS/SABA.

Gospel was the mother of soul, and not only of the genre, but of every single artist, who started his musical life in the church choirs and bands throughout the USA. I'm not favorable to religion and missionaries, but I wouldn't want to miss this part of our musical history. Robert Patterson was from Brooklyn, N.Y., and started his search for talented gospel singers in the late 50ies, when founding the Robert Patterson Singers.

Review from www.sirshambling.com:
Recorded live in Frankfurt, Germany the Patterson Singers were already moving toward the Soul that would blossom so beautifully on their one secular recording for the Atco label. Just listen to Mildred Lane caress, stretch and pinch the lyrics while the other members of the group echo and punctuate her moans and screams. There’s even a false ending to wring even more tension out of the song. This rivals the Chambers Brothers’ version as the best ever take of this oft-covered Impressions hit.
