Grammy Award winner Seal's self-titled debut, which went five times platinum in the U.S. alone, is being released in a new 4-CD/2-LP version with remastered audio, rare recordings, dance remixes and a previously unreleased concert.
When Seal released his very first single "Crazy" at the end of 1990, he kicked off a real storm. The song - to which the musician was inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall, among other things - shot up to the top chart regions around the world (DE #2). It was a similar story with the accompanying self-titled album (1991), which reached #1 in its British homeland, went double platinum and won the "Best British Album" King's Award at the Brit Awards (DE #7 and Gold). Three decades later, Seal's songs continue to resonate with generations of music fans around the world, recently breaking the five million unit sales barrier in the U.S., where the album has thus officially achieved five-times platinum status.
A good 30 years later, you can now look forward to a 4-CD/2-LP deluxe edition of Seal's groundbreaking debut album. "Seal: Deluxe Edition" includes a 30x30cm hardcover book with rare photos and liner notes by noted music journalist Jim Farber. The album comes in a new mastering on CD/double LP, the latter additionally with an etching on the last disc. The three remaining CDs of the set offer plenty of supplementary content to the original album, including rare recordings from the time of the recording sessions such as early mixes and remixes, plus you can look forward to a previously unreleased concert recording with 13 tracks.
One of the bonus discs on Seal: Deluxe Edition features a number of rarities, including "premix" versions of six album tracks - early mixes that were briefly available on early pressings before being replaced by Horn's final mixes. The collection also brings back to mind the many outstanding dance remixes created at the time for the album's singles, including highlights such as William Orbit's dub mix of "Killer" and Giro E Giro's mix of "The Beginning."
