On July 9, 1999, Dr. John performed at the Loreley as part of a Rockpalast festival. He was accompanied by three outstanding session musicians: David Barard (bass), Bobby Broom, and Herman Ernest (drums). The set list included Dr. John classics such as "Iko, Iko, " "Right Place, Wrong Time, " and "I Walk On Guilded Splinters, " which became a global hit in 1969 in Marsha Hunt's version and was later covered by Cher, Humble Pie, and the Neville Brothers, among others. This Rockpalast recording is a moving legacy of the extraordinary musician and human being Dr. John, who passed away in the summer of 2019 in his beloved hometown of New Orleans.

Doctor John's second solo piano album finds him combining country, blues, and New Orleans standards with originals, half of them instrumentals, and half of them containing vocals that sound like they were recorded off the piano microphone. This is not a high-tech recording, by any means, but in its unadorned way it does capture the flavor of Doctor John as directly as any record he's made.

This classic Neville Brothers album, the group's second release, was issued in 1981 and is chock full of guests, including a then-unknown 18-year-old Whitney Houston (and her mother Cissy) on background vocals and musicians such as Dr. John, percussionist Ralph MacDonald and a cappella group The Persuasions.
