Donizetti's rollicking comic opera "The Elixir of Love" receives a scintillating performance in this early 1970's London/Decca recording. Featuring an unbeatable cast, headed by Joan Sutherland and Luciano Pavarotti, this wonderful interpretation demonstrates singing of the highest levels of artistic integrity- definitive, passionate, lyrical, committed. The English Chamber Orchestra responds to Richard Bonynge's direction to provide sharp, colorful orchestral support, and the Ambrosian Opera Chorus' performance can only be described as brilliant. Donizetti wrote immediately attractive operatic works, this "Elixir of Love" being a perfect example.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart completed his Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551, on 10 August 1788. The longest and last symphony that he composed, it is regarded by many critics as among the greatest symphonies in classical music. The work is nicknamed the Jupiter Symphony, probably coined by the impresario Johann Peter Salomon.

In an album of world-premiere recordings, Ben Parry conducts London Voices and the English Chamber Orchestra in choral music by British composer Jonathan Rutherford.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote his Symphony No. 36 in C major, K. 425, also known as the Linz Symphony during a stopover in the Austrian town of Linz as he and his wife travelled back home to Vienna from Salzburg in late 1783. The entire symphony was written in four days to accommodate the local count's announcement of a concert, upon hearing of the Mozarts' arrival in Linz.

Anne Akiko Meyers presents "The Four Seasons: The Vivaldi Album", also featuring the Vivaldi Triple Concerto (where she plays all 3 parts) and Arvo Part’s "Passacaglia" with the English Chamber Orchestra. "The Four Seasons" is a compilation of four violin concertos, Vivaldi's best known classical compositions originally published in 1725. Each concerto represents and evokes a respective season, "Spring", "Summer", "Autumn", and "Winter". This mark the debut recording of the ‘Ex-Vieuxtemps’.

This pivotal recording features classic performances of late eighteenth-century cello concertos, one by Haydn and Friedrich Grutzmacher’s 1895 arrangement of Boccherini’s work in B flat. The album demonstrates the enormous gifts of Jacqueline du Pre. Recorded in London in 1967, Jacqueline du Pre is accompanied by her husband Daniel Barenboim and the English Chamber Orchestra.

Respected international pianist Rosemary Tuck presents a collection of works by Czerny on this release for Naxos. Primarily remembered today as a pupil of Beethoven, a teacher of Liszt, and for his famous piano treatise, Czerny was a prolific composer in his own right. This album brings together his enchanting Introduzione e Rondo brillant in B Flat Major, the Piano Concerto in D Minor, and the Introduction, Variations and Rondo on C.M. von Weber's Hunting Chorus from Euryanthe, displaying the varied skills of this overlooked 19th-century figure.

Carl Czerny penned an astonishing amount of music, including the numerous potpourris, fantasies, teaching pieces and studies for which he became known. This recording features the delightfully entertaining "Concertino in C major", Op. 210/213 (MS Op. 197), as well as the highly enjoyable "Rondino", a work based on an enchanting theme taken from Daniel Auber’s opéra comique Le Maçon.

This album of world premieres is the first volume in a series of Carl Czerny’s works for piano and orchestra starring Australian pianist Rosemary Tuck. She is accompanied by the English Chamber Orchestra under conductor Richard Bonynge on this programme, inspired by the most famous and attractive themes from Bel Canto operas which were hugely popular in their time and are still performed today. The sets of variations as performed here give full rein to the soloist and are a major contribution to the great pianist composer tradition.

This disc is sort of Yo-Yo's virtuoso collection. The album is comprised largely of fairly mindless music, but at least Ma manages to make things interesting. Most of these works are played extremely well - his cello arrangement of the Dvorak-Kriesler "Songs my mother taught me" is stunning, and if the octaves (and a bit of other passagework) in the Paganani 24th caprice are out of tune, that track still serves as a tribute to his incredible technical skill.

This new recording of Bach's masterpieces for violin and orchestra is Anne's third release for eOne. Alongside the two concertos for violin, Anne has recorded the Concerto for Two Violins, performing both parts on her two Stradivari violins: her recently acquired Ex-Napoleon Molitor Stradivarius (as featured on "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" on MSNBC) and the Royal Spanish Stradivarius, heard on her last two eOne recordings. Also included on this disc are exquisite new arrangements of the "Air" from the Suite No. 3 and the Bach-Gounod "Ave Maria." Anne is quoted as saying "It was magical recording the Bach album with the English Chamber Orchestra and the 'Ex-Molitor/Napoleon' Stradivari violin, dated 1697. The special combination of beautiful repertoire, including 'Air', 'Largo' and 'Ave Maria', the Violin Concertos and the fresh take of recording both parts of the Double Concerto on 2 different Strads, was pure joy to make!".

Brazilian composers in the 19th century often sought state scholarships to enable them to study in Europe where they were to become influenced by the German, Italian and French compositional schools. They also became involved in the vogue for writing suites based on ancient dances, such as Nepomuceno’s delightful Ancient Suite, premiered at Grieg’s home, or Braga’s Madrigal-Pavana which evokes the belle époque ballrooms of Rio de Janeiro. Miguéz’s Suite in the Old Style is polyphonic and lively, while Gomes’ Sonata for Strings is his finest non-operatic work.

Having Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks in its original scoring is an obvious attraction, but Water Music is drastically shortchanged in the 11-movement suite offered here. Since it is possible to fit the complete Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks on a single disc, the loss of the Suite in G major and half of the Suite in D major is unreasonable. Be that as it may, Johannes Somary and the English Chamber Orchestra offer fairly enjoyable performances, though modern instruments are used and some niceties of Baroque interpretation.
