Michael Wollny’s trio album "Weltentraum" and his 2014 tour of Germany have been the highlights of his career to date. "Weltentraum" garnered praise and acknowledgement from national and international critics, including a cover story in Jazzwise which named it Album of the Year and a four star review in DownBeat. It was also Wollny's commercial breakthrough and set the stage for the wildly successful German shows. This performance was recorded in March 2014 at the Philharmonie Berlin and captures the energy and excitement audiences felt during the tour.

On “Bliss”, Eric Schaefer and his band The Shredz blend the fusion jazz of the sixties with the jazz dub of the nineties and the club music of today to concoct an explosive hubble-bubble of a magic brew. It’s not Voodoo. It is merely style and good taste, skills and know-how, complex compositions and improvisatory passion.

Pianist Michael Wollny‘s highly acclaimed trio recording "Weltentraum" is a stunning example of contemporary interpretation in the hands of a unique, fluidly virtuoso artist. Wollny, with both elegance and wit, explores the connection between songs that are worlds apart in terms of both centuries and cultures. In his hands, interpretations of God Is a DJ by pop star Pink and the French Medieval piece Lasse! can logically coexist. Weltentraum was named Album of the Year in 2014 by the critics of Jazzwise.

The path as a goal – The story of the recording “Content” by Roman Rhode. The seven tracks are snapshots. Oli Bott simply calls them “content”. In both senses of the word. For the recordings reflect both the quartet’s joy in playing and the content: compositions reduced to the essentials that offer an astonishing amount of room for interaction and improvisation. In them, Bott, a cross-genre musician, composer and arranger, conveys his own vision of jazz: as freedom for personal development. “Nothing was rehearsed, nothing counted on,” Bott says. “We had no idea how it would start and how it would end, when the theme would come, who would improvise when.”

Krzysztof Komeda has legendary status in Polish jazz, and was also one of the pioneers of European jazz. His wider fame resides largely in his work as a film composer – he wrote the soundtracks for all of Roman Polanski’s early films, notably "Dance of the Vampires" and "Rosemary's Baby". Komeda died in 1969, tragically early, at the age of just 37, but left a hugely influential body of work. Joachim Kühn, now a jazz piano icon in his own right, is a great admirer of Komeda, whom he met in person in Warsaw in 1965. As part of the Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic concert series, curated by Siggi Loch, he performed a major tribute concert to him on 14 October 2022, at which he played in three formats: solo piano, with his New Trio, and alongside Poland’s Atom String Quartet.

Drummer and composer Eric Schaefer has been described as the central shining star of the German jazz scene. On "Kyoto mon Amour", he takes on the challenge of building bridges between Japanese and Western music. Over more than a decade, he has made three visits to Korea and stayed in Japan no fewer than six times, trips which have greatly influenced Schaefer's musical psyche.

"As an improviser, you often find that it‘s not the compositions themselves you‘re playing, but your own memories of them. And as these memories come back to you in the moment, they assert their continuing existence in the here and now," says Michael Wollny. In other words, songs are like ghosts. Wollny‘s new album "Ghosts" is a gathering of some of the ghosts that regularly haunt him. Typically for Wollny, they range from classics like Franz Schubert's "Erlkönig" to jazz standards, film music, songs with a certain fragility by Nick Cave, say, or the band Timber Timbre, and also include his own darkly evocative original compositions.
