For their fourth album, Supersax continued its practice of recreating recorded Charlie Parker solos harmonized for a full saxophone section. What was different this time around was that with one exception, all of the solos were taken from concerts rather than studio dates. The result is that the ensembles sound fresher (since Bird's live improvisations are generally not that well-known) and longer. Trumpeters Blue Mitchell and Conte Candoli, trombonist Frank Rosolino and pianist Lou Levy get solo space, and highlights include "Shaw Nuff", "Drifting on a Reed", "Dizzy Atmosphere" and a six-minute rendition of "Night In Tunisia".

Supersax is known for their miraculous renderings of Charlie Parker solos. They’re still flyin’ high with two ‘Bird’ pieces - his Blues For Alice once again denotes Parker’s mastery of the blues. And then there’s Parker’s Mood, a slow blues that contains one of Bird’s most venerated solos, beautifully reproduced by the five saxes. Here the group expands, taking on three compositions and solos from the bebop giant, pianist Bud Powell…

One of Frank Rosolino's first sessions as a bandleader, "I Play Trombone" was released in 1956 and the title left no doubt about the instrument on which he built his career and legendary reputation. An alumni of both Gene Krupa and Stan Kenton's orchestras, Rosolino moved to Los Angeles in the mid 1950s where he was kept very busy playing on albums by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Qunicy Jones and Mel Tormé, among many others, but he also kept up a solo recording career.

George Gershwin's folk opera got this jazz treatment for the very first time in 1956 starring Mel Tormé as Porgy and Frances Faye as Bess. Bethlehem Records put nearly their entire roster of vocalists and musicians in the studio to cut this all-star session. The singers are backed up by the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the Stan Levey Group, the Australian Jazz Quintet (with Herbie Mann on flute) and the Bethlehem Orchestra conducted by Russ Garcia.
