This wonderful studio date by the talented Catalonian blind pianist Tete Montoliu was recorded in his native Barcelona in March of 1992, but until now it had been only available on a long out of print CD issued in Japan by the Alfa Jazz label shortly after being recorded. The renowned VENUS label presents it back again for everyone to enjoy. Tete is backed by New Orleans drummer Idris Muhammad, and Netherlands born bassist Hein Van de Geyn, and the program features a selection of Catalan traditional songs, plus two versions of songs by the remarkable Joan Manuel Serrat (“Words of Love”, which Tete recorded on several other occasions, and the more seldom heard “My Street”), and one Montoliu original, "I Don't Smoke Anymore".

"I Hear a Symphony" is the sixteenth album led by saxophonist Hank Crawford and his fifth released on the Kudu (CTI) label in 1973. AllMusic states, "This set is a cooker. Certainly the production is a bit dated, but the funky-butt moves in Crawford's soulful playing and the tough riffing of Gale more than transcend it".

Joe Beck was an American jazz guitarist who played in a variety of jazz styles, including jazz fusion, post bop, mainstream jazz and soul jazz. On this album Joe Beck joined with Joey DeFrancesco and Idris Muhammad. As result the trio plays subtle, tastefully rendered versions of jazz standards. Beck's guitar takes inspiration from the Jim Hall and Pat Metheny, featuring gentle bent notes, muted strumming, wandering melodic lines, and a smooth, rounded tone.

Though he passed from cancer in 2008 at the young age of 52, jazz and rock guitarist Hiram Bullock lives on in the music he left behind. A music lover from the start, he played saxophone and bass guitar before claiming his place as a guitarist at the age of 16. He went on to appear on several albums with saxophonist David Sanborn, as well as other artists' session for record producer Phil Ramone. Mr. Bullock later started the 24th Street Band and the group made three albums. The 24th Street Band made several appearances on "Late Night With David Letterman" whenever Letterman's keyboardist Paul Shaffer needed a band. Shaffer dubbed them The World's Most Dangerous Band while Mr. Bullock, himself, earned the nickname "The Barefoot Guitarist". Those joining Mr. Bullock for the Late Night Talk album include organist Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joe Locke on electric and acoustic vibs, acoustic bassist Ed Howard and Idris Muhammad on drums.

"Macho" is an album by Hungarian guitarist Gábor Szabó featuring performances recorded in 1975 and released on the Salvation (CTI) label. The Allmusic review states "This is a tough, streetwise, commercial jazz album that has plenty to offer to anyone with an open mind. In the pocket, groove-soaked, and flawlessly executed".

"Life Flight" is a later album by Freddie Hubbard and was recorded in 1987, when the trumpeter was 48 years old. Still in peak form, the album is an excellent example of Hubbard's musicianship and mastery of his instrument. Recorded in New York City in 1987 with two different bands, a sextet and a quartet. Among the notable members of the sextet on the first two tracks are Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and George Benson on guitar. Ralph Moore handles tenor sax duties on the quartet tracks, both Freddie Hubbard originals. This album has been called one of Hubbard's last great releases.

Recorded and released in 1971 on Prestige Records, this historic reissue finds saxophonist Rusty Bryant grooving hard on a stretched-out, funky set of four originals with a combo that features Idris Muhammad on drums, Wilbert Longmire on guitar and both Bill Mason and Leon Spencer Jr. on organ. This one differs strongly from the label's smoother electric output – as it's got the rough n ready feel of a classic Prestige jazz funk session.
