In their second Luigi Boccherini release, the Karski Quartet and cellist Raphaël Feye once again present four string quintets, including two world premieres. Composed for the unusual combination of two cellos, these pieces showcase Boccherini's versatility, ranging from Mediterranean warmth to the elegance of Viennese classicism. The album successfully combines historical awareness with contemporary depth, delivering a sophisticated and captivating portrait of the composer.
The Karski Quartet was founded in Belgium in 2018 and performs at numerous venues throughout Europe. Among other accolades, they were awarded the Christine and David Anderson Career Development Prize at the 2022 Banff International String Quartet Competition. Raphaël Feye graduated summa cum laude from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, where he studied cello. As an active member of the Coryfeye Quartet, he has performed at numerous venues throughout Europe and shared the stage with prominent musicians. Together with Camille Feye, he founded the Les Métamorphoses Orchestra and recorded the music of several composers with pianist Julien Libeer and cellist Pieter Wispelwey. He is also active as a conductor.
