Saxophonist and vocalist María Grand presents her new project, “Anohin”, a gently intricate duo with wondrous pianist Marta Sánchez. The music, a mix of song, spontaneous duo improvisations, and through-written music, effortlessly weaves technical virtuosity with a direct connection to transcendent sound. Most of all, it is music that is focused on the heart, on the freeing act of sound-making and listening.

“With each new album I want to get deeper into bareness; to directly hit and express whatever emotion I am feeling by using sound. In a duo setting, we have to stand within ourselves as much as with each other; it allows us to be who we are while being together; to maintain individuality within connection. To individuate, if you will, while creating together cohesively. This is who we are in this duo, close friends who dare to disagree with each other and watch the musical tension rise and fall with growing intimacy. Marta has embodied this music with grace, agility, and an open heart.”
