The Indian Premier League (IPL) will be in its eleventh edition this year. While teams like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have won the title multiple times, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) – despite being led by the Indian captain Virat Kohli – have failed to win the tournament even once. The below par performances of Kohli’s men begs the question - why has the skipper who has been leading the Men in Blue so successfully for over three years now, has not been able to mirror the same for his franchise. In an already adrenaline-fuelled, increasingly ugly contest, the Australian cricketers took their actions a step too far. What made this particular incident of ball tampering even worse was the fact that this was done with the full blessing of the captain who happens to be one of the world’s most esteemed batsmen.
