Marrakech is dusty, ramshackle, chaotic and hot. At times it’s blunt, dishonest and intimidating. It can be bothersome and irritating. But we absolutely love it. Why? Because it is quite possibly the most effortlessly experiential city that we have ever visited. Unlike many other destinations we have had the pleasure of travelling to, it doesn’t need to try hard to put on a show.

With the spirit of discovery and exploration as our compass, our storytellers offer up three unique travel experiences in our Topography section. The first involves following our noses and tracing the origins of fragrance making and presentation in Italy back to Renaissance era Venice. The second is a humorous traveller’s tale of close encounters with supernatural canines and mysterious orbs of lights, in Marfa, Texas. And the last but not least of our travel stories is about returning and rediscovering the comeback coast of Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey. In a special partnership with one of the world’s smallest, but most OutThere cities – West Hollywood, California – we bring part one of a series of two 12-page specials, telling you what we love most about the City of Stars. We check out its ‘hip and happening’ – not to mention ‘rock and roll’ – hotels, have a heart to heart with its Mayor, meet its ‘blooming marvellous citizens’, try the latest wellness fads and find ourselves out in the Hollywood Hills.
