IT TOOK A long time before they spoke out, but women in Hollywood have shaken the world by coming forward to speak about the sexual harassment they have suffered from a few vile filmmakers during the past couple of decades.

What began in America has rapidly become an international cause, as millions of women around the globe have added their support for the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. But discrimination, gender inequality and violence against women are not just problems in the glamorous world of Hollywood.

In our Women’s issue this month, we talk to six inspiring indonesian personalities about the biggest challenges facing women in this country. They grace our cover in Dior, a house that has awakened the feminist spirit in the high fashion industry thanks to its first female Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri.

Widi Wardhana, Director of Teladan Group, wants more women to obtain educational opportunities: “The gap (in pay between men and women) is big because the proportion of highly educated men is higher than that of women.”

Hannah Al Rashid, actress and UNDP Indonesia SDG Mover for Gender Equality, believes that the solution lies not just in women speaking up: “We Have to engage men in this discussion.”
