SA BASS has been the leading bass magazine since 2001 for everyone who loves bass fishing. In this issue we focus on catching winter bass.
Winter Bass Fishing: Jerkbaits
Lauri Rapala, founder of the world renown Rapala crankbaits inspired local Protea bass angler, Japie Botha, to focus on jerkbait fishing in this winter article. As anglers we are not always comfortable with fishing jerkbaits in winter but it surely can be very rewarding. Find out what gear you will need and how to present the baits to make things happen.
Extreme Conditions Call for Extreme Measures
It is no secret that thick vegetation can hold a lot of bass and big ones as well. But in winter, many anglers will go and fish deep spots where they have confidence in their go-to techniques. However, punching is another fishing technique, but it is not for the faint hearted. If you want to catch better than average size fish in winter, you will have to see what editor, Bennie Wiese, has to say on this deadly technique.
Walking the Dog
A floating cigar shaped hard plastic bait with two or three treble hooks dangling conspicuously from all ends and painted eyes is not something that will convince many anglers to try and fool a fish with.
Nevertheless, those who have experienced the heart stopping moment when a big fish try to annihilate this intruding bait will all agree that top water lures presented between two shallow lying brush piles is something that will never be forgotten. Here Roger Donaldson shares the technique of “Walking the Dog”.
