Transportation and logistics in the food supply chain - especially perishables - requires a commitment from logistics providers to continually invest in their own operations to meet cold chain shipper’s needs. Besides control of ambient conditions, visibility is the second major strand of development, with the emphasis on real-time updates to maintain the integrity. Moreover, increasingly stringent regulations keep raising the bar for shippers as well as their logistics providers.

Twinkle Sahita's regional report is on the Benelex region. As a key cargo gateway of Europe, the Benelux region benefits from a well developed logistics infrastructure. Report finds that with air cargo logistics community initiatives like Pharma.Aero and Pharma Gateway Amsterdam, the region is maintaining its lead to keep shippers of key commodities fully satisfied.

In a special report by Shreya Bhattacharya, the air cargo market and development potential of East Africa is explored. While global economies had a tough time in 2016, Africa comparatively fared well. Much of the continent’s growth was however, driven by East Africa. Riding on this positive growth rate, the regional as well as foreign air cargo industry players have intensified their competition, as each positions itself to dominate the most lucrative routes from the region.

Reji John brings an update on the leadership change at the cargo division of Doha-based Qatar Airways, one of the leading airlines of the world and one of the top three global cargo carrier. Ulrich Ogiermann, the Chief Officer Cargo since 2012, cites family reason to leave Qatar Airways and return to Europe. The Gulf carrier is yet to announce a permanent replacement for Ogiermann at its cargo division.
