This month it’s Bring Your Dog To Work Day (June 22), a chance for us all to discover just how beneficial having a dog in the office can be.

A few years ago, when my Norfolk Terrier, Bertie, was a pup, I was lucky enough to be able to take him to work with me every day.

We created a puppy pen for him, devised a rota so he was taken out regularly for toileting sessions and socialising, and introduced him to most of our clients and visitors, who he greeted with great excitement and lots of tail wagging!

In return, Bertie proved the ideal ice-breaker, earned his keep by posing for numerous photo sessions, and provided the whole of the YD team with the perfect excuse for a bit of fresh air and five minutes away from our desks.

This issue, Joanne Bednall speaks to four people who have similarly enjoyed the companionship of dogs in the workplace, and there are some tips on how to persuade your boss it could be a good idea (page 10). We‘d love to hear from other readers who take their dogs to work; drop us a line, email us, or get in touch via Facebook or Twitter, and let us know how you‘re getting on!

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of this packed issue of YD; we’ve got great holiday advice for those who are going away with their dogs later in the summer, a brilliant interview with ex-TOWIE star Pete Wicks about how French Bulldogs changed his life, some amazing stories about rescue dogs, and lots of puppy advice, as well as more fascinating features and top tips.
