For a long time I had had the idea of using a large-scale work to put into concrete form a concept that seemed to me to symbolize the apparatus of sensory perception in music. The concept permits two types of attitude as its extremes: immediate perception, linked to the nature of phenomena at the moment they occur, and reflective perception, which takes the relationships between phenomena into consideration, and causes memory to intervene. In symmetry with the latter type we have foreseeability. That is, the unconscious will to anticipate the musical discourse, with this will feeding on memorized objects…

Milt Jackson and his quartet of 1982 (with pianist Monty Alexander, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Mickey Roker) recorded three albums of material during an engagement at Ronnie Scott's Club in London. Pianist/composer Thelonious Monk had passed away two months earlier and Jackson decided to pay tribute to his old associate. The vibraphonist is in excellent form on four of Monk's standards in addition to a lengthy "Django," his own "Think Positive" and Ray Brown's "Blues for Groundhog." Review by Scott Yanow

Biography by Craig Harris, All Music Guide
The ultra-fast piano playing of the early-twentieth century has continued to infuse the music of pianist, Errol Dixon. Inspired by New Orleans pianist Jelly Roll Morton (1890-1941), Dixon's repertoire combines boogie-woogie, gospel, swing, soul and piano blues.

Born in Jamaica, Dixon moved to New York with his parents, at the age of twelve. The blues and jazz emanating out of the clubs of Harlem captivated his interest.

Launching his professional career after moving to London, in the mid-1950s, Dixon scored a number one hit with his debut single, "Midnight Train", in 1960. Dixon's resume includes collaborations with Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, B.B. King and Muddy Waters.
