Although a very unassuming program, this recording has always been a personal favorite. For one, it was one of the first Carnatic CDs to offer superlative sound, but more than that, the austerity of Aruna Sayeeram's renditions have much to offer even though she is a relatively non-senior artiste (especially at the time of this recording).

Throne of Katarsis have embarked on a journey of subservience to (and utter obfuscation by) the earliest “true” black metal bands. Helvete’s actually pretty impressive considering its status as imitation, ranging from the impressive Attila impression on “Lysets Endeligt,” the barbaric, chaffing guitars ala Blaze in the Northern Sky on “Winds of Blasphemy,” and mountain-hearting Immortal riffs in closing piece “Summoning the Hordes.”

Hats off to Candlelight for giving these two British psychos some much-needed exposure. Music this extreme and dare we say “genuine” deserves a broader audience, as it has the ability to fracture those pesky sub-genre segments that us journalistic types like to run into the ground. And there’s no appearances to the contrary, Anaal Nathrakh are the extreme metal band to watch. With In the Constellation of the Black Widow, they merely reinforce that notion.

After 20 years of Death Metal, Obituary, one of the first and most important bands in the genre, make this great album, one of their best releases in the last years. With Ralph Santolla on the guitar, their awesome melodic solos and the brutal riffs goes to a perfect musical direction, always with the brutal voice of John Tardy and the pummeling drums of Donald Tardy. Songs like "List of Dead", "Payback", "Violent Dreams", "Truth be Told" or "Forces Realign" make a solid and excellent Death Metal album, without doubt, one of the best releases of the year.
