Slobodan Jovanovic was born in 1977 in Pancevo. He studied harpsichord and clavichord with Robert Hill and basso continuo with Michael Behringer in Freiburg. In Karlsruhe he studied fortepiano and chamber music with Kristian Nyquist. He also trained as a professional organist. He has appeared in most European countries as a sought after chamber music partner and soloist. He has performed as a continuo player with several ensembles and orchestras. In 2002 he made his recording debut with the harpsichord sonatas by Franz Anton Maichelbeck. As a composer he consistently pursues the idea of fusion of musical styles and tonal languages. The present release is a solo recital featuring music by CPE Bach, WF Bach, and Jovanovic himself, played on a Fortepiano.

As William Boughton celebrates his 70th birthday, we have put together this selection from his recordings for Nimbus and Lyrita. Every recording contains a story but, sadly, there is not the space to tell them all here so I ve selected certain memorable, hopefully correct(!), experiences. Revisiting my early recordings reminded me of the joys and struggles that we encountered whilst developing the English String Orchestra (ESO), the development of our sound, our thinking and musicianship. Every recording is testament to a moment in time, to our responses and emotions during its preparation and in the brief moment when the performance is created.

Jean Doyen is perhaps the archetypal French pianist. Taught by Louis Diemer and Marguerite Long, he went on to become the second longest serving piano professor in the Paris Conservatoires history and largely dedicated his career to his homeland. In addition, his repertoire centered on the French classics, with Chopin also taking pride of place. His early recordings reveal a spectacular technique coupled with generous musicality and expression its no wonder he was chosen for this premiere recording of Ravels Gaspard de la nuit. His Chopin Op 2 Variations and the complete Book 1 of Debussys Images are also recording firsts, but for sheer virtuoso exhilaration, his rare Sonabel album of Chabriers Espana is hard to beat. Surprisingly, none of these marvelous performances have previously been reissued.

Though some musicians rerecord the same repertoire, refining the same concept over time, Alfred Brendel's Beethoven concertos change significantly with every go-around. One of the defining influences in this latest go-around is conductor Simon Rattle. He's one of the stronger minded and truly collaborative conductors that Brendel has ever had, and his bent toward historically informed performance inspires the pianist to a radical reevaluation, resulting in interpretations that achieve a new level of cogency over his previous take.

Wilhelm Furtwangler left six recordings of Brahms' three concertos. This CD contains two remarkable recordings. Violin Concerto (with Yehudi Menuhin and Orchester der Luzerner Festspiele(Luzern Festival Orchestra)) is very important document. Menuhin plays very confidently unlike later recordings(Especially first movement's cadenza by Kreisler and intro of last movement). And Furtwangler made huge scale in orchestral parts very naturally.

Following two albums of inimitable, challenging pop music that garnered global acclaim and marked Kirin J Callinan as a singularly unique talent, it is ironically singing other peoples’ songs that felt like the most truthful next step for Kirin as an artist. On Return To Center, Callinan’s trademark flamboyance is cut with a newfound fragility that comes curled up in an attempt to do justice to the songs he holds nearest and dearest.

After a long period off of records (at least as a leader), pianist Kenny Drew emerged in 1973 for a duo session with bassist Niels Pederson. For their rematch in 1974, Drew and Pederson performed one original apiece, five standards (including "A Child Is Born" and "My Shining Hour") and jazz interpretations of a couple of Scandinavian folk songs. The pianist's style was largely unchanged from the 1950s except that he had grown a bit as a player and was open to some more modern chord voicings. The music on this encounter with the virtuosic bassist Niels Pederson should easily appeal to Kenny Drew's fans.

Ducktails is a music project led by American songwriter and guitarist Matt Mondanile, started in 2006. From 2013 to 2016, it was expanded as a band. Following a number of limited-run cassette releases, the 2009 albums Ducktails and Landscapes brought Ducktails critical recognition. The project was associated with the mid-2000s hypnagogic pop scene. six studio albums have been released since then. In late 2017 Matt Mondanile's former bandmates claimed that he had been fired from the band in early 2016 due to allegations of sexual misconduct.

This compilation of Bach's Violin Concertos has been in the CBS (now Sony) catalog since 1983. The recordings themselves are older. The "Double Concerto," from a live concert conducted by Zubin Mehta, attains considerable eloquence in the slow movement and has plenty of energy, although the orchestra is oversized for its task and isn't transparent enough. In the First Violin Concerto, Isaac Stern unwisely divides his attention between playing and conducting.
