During his lifetime Friedrich Schneider was regarded as »the respected head of the Northern German school« and was a musical institution in Central Germany. He was active as the court music director in Dessau from 1821 until his death, and for two reasons his fame during these years wasconsiderable: because of his wholehearted support of Beethovens works and because of his own compositions in particular his oratorios. Today his Weltgericht continues to be regarded as a link between Haydn and Mendelssohn. Schneiders Symphony No. 16 displays majestic chords, and its movements of song character win over listening audiences with their charm and naturalness while also offering their share of surprises, mirth, and high spirits.

Bad Dreams is the one of the very few Latin American classic and prog-rock band to triumph outside the continent and certainly the one making the biggest impact in the prog-rock community lately. Hailing from Argentina, and comprising five accomplished musicians, they began their prolific career performing Genesis' music for a period of more than 10 years, venture in which they attained worldwide recognition by fans and Genesis members alike; being mentioned in the official website of Genesis and Steve Hackett, having fused Genesis music with a symphony orchestra and played together with Genesis’ last singer Ray Wilson…

Otto Klemperer was one of the most important German conductors of the 20th century. After his return from emigration he guestconducted some of the most important orchestras in Germany including the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. He did not assume the position of Chief Conductor in his homeland again, however: he felt estranged and alienated from postwar Germany, and this was compounded by his advanced age and poor health. In April 1956, Klemperer conducted the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks for the very first time the debut of a man who was almost 71 years old. Up to May 1969, he would conduct a total of eleven evening concerts in Munich.

The Italian composer Gioachino Rossini is best known for his operas. Many of their overtures and arias were catchy tunes at the time and have remained so to this day. Although it is Rossini’s comic operas that are primarily performed today, more than half of his stage works are in fact based on serious themes. One veritable rarity is the stage work "Sigismondo", which premiered in 1814 at the famous Teatro La Fenice in Venice but was only ever rarely performed afterwards.

Bad Dreams from Argentina played alongside Steve Rothery and his band during the South American leg of their world tour. Rothery plays a solo on the title track of this album Déjà Vu. The band opened for Steve Hackett during his South American tour. That gives you an idea of the direction the music of Bad Dreams goes. No, they are not a copy of these artists. Bad Dreams is a magnificent force of their own.
The album Déjà Vu is a showpiece of what this band is capable of. Brilliant melodies in a classic prog setting with instrumentalists that have total control over their instruments…

Bad Dreams is a Latin American (Argentina) progressive rock band. The group started out as a Genesis cover band which over 10 years became known well enough to recognize their accomplishments as musicians. This also led to contact with Steve Hackett, for whom they became an opening act on his tour, and the last Genesis singer Ray Wilson with whom they also played with. In 2015 the band became the first Latin American band in the Cruise To The Edge celebration where they played successful shows. In 2015, Bad Dreams started of releasing their own solo material. They released their debut album 'Apocalypse Of The Mercy' and followed it up with 'Deja Vu' the next year which features Steve Rothery of Marillion on one of the songs. Music of Bad Dreams can be recommended to both fans of Genesis but also of neo prog in the vein of Marillion.

Violin music isn’t what one normally associates with Franz Schubert, but he did in fact receive his first violin lessons as a young boy from his father. At the age of 11 he was accepted as a member of the choir of the imperial court chapel, and as such became a pupil at the Stadtkonvikt School. There he joined the excellent student orchestra, eventually assuming the role of leader. Among his examiners was the court Kapellmeister Anton Salieri, who took a keen interest in Schubert’s compositions.

This 2009 Alto disc, a repackaged remastering of a 1998 Olympia disc, pairs the Polish-Russian composer's First and Fourth chamber symphonies. The First is a four-movement work for string orchestra from 1986 and the Fourth is a work with four-movements-in-one for string orchestra and clarinet from 1992. Both receive wholly dedicated works from the Umeå Symphony Orchestra under the leadership of Thord Svedlund.

An American-British fortepianist, a Transylvanian violinist, and an Italian-British cellist join together into a trio with a Spanish name and produce a historical-instrument recording of a group of late Haydn trios that may well set the standard. Perhaps you can chalk it up to the increasingly international quality of the historical performance movement. Whatever the case, this recording showcases the strengths of historical instruments in Haydn and is just beautifully thought out in every detail.

Making their first appearance on BIS, Margaret Batjer and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) cross great distances in both time and space in this programme of concertante violin works. The disc opens with a Violin Concerto by the American composer Pierre Jalbert (b. 1967), whose music has been described as ‘rich in instrumental color and harmonically engaging’. Composed in 2017, the 26-minute concerto was a commission from the orchestra and here makes its first recorded appearance. The next work takes us to 18th-century Germany, where Johann Sebastian Bach had been busy studying the concertos of his Italian colleagues, and especially Vivaldi. His Concerto in A minor is thought to have been composed around 1730, at a time when Bach had freed himself from his models, producing works richer in both texture and sentiment.
