"The story might seem familiar to some: Brazilian singer meets U.S. musician, fall in love and create music. That is what happened in 2000, when Andrea Moraes moved from Rio de Janeiro to St. Petersburg, Florida. Two years later, she married David Manson. An architect by trade, Andrea possesses a naturally pleasing voice just made for Bossa Nova singing. Though reluctant to perform as a singer at first, Andrea gave in and joined O Som do Jazz as its main vocalist for Infinita Bossa, an album that proudly celebrates 50 years of Bossa Nova.

Fear of the Dark is the ninth studio album released by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden. Released on 11 May 1992, it was their third studio release to top the UK albums chart and the last to feature Bruce Dickinson as the group's lead vocalist until his return in 1999. It was also the first album to be produced by bassist and band founder Steve Harris, and the last to feature the work of producer Martin Birch (who retired after its release). In October 2011, Fear of the Dark was ranked No. 8 on Guitar World magazine's top ten list of guitar albums of 1992. Fear of the Dark became the third Iron Maiden album to top the UK Albums Chart. It is the band's most successful record in North America after the inception of Nielsen SoundScan in 1991.

Since their inception in 2012, Big Brave have explored terrains of experimental rock with a clear focus on the key principles; space, volume, and raw emotion. The same principles are the starting point for the new album and in the process of revisiting their early intentions, Big Brave have boldly evolved, emerging with a thrilling new body of work that is all at once refreshingly new, explosively heavy, dynamically loud, beautifully minimal, carefully repetitive, and totally and utterly cathartic.

Pianist Oliver Jones performs ten familiar Christmas songs on this quartet set with guitarist Richard Ring, bassist Dave Young and drummer Walt Muhammad. Jones sounds quite exuberant on some of the tunes, particularly "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Winter Wonderland" and "Sleigh Ride." A fun session recommended to collectors of Christmas jazz. ~ AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow

Kris Kristofferson has complained that no album he released after 1972's Jesus Was a Capricorn was given any promotion, and 1974's Spooky Lady's Sideshow is the first record that falls into that category. If his statement is true, it is understandable why Monument Records would have refrained from a major campaign on behalf of the album. Record companies tend to reserve their greatest promotional effort for developing artists who show commercial promise, expecting established artists to fend for themselves. And at the time of the release of Spooky Lady's Sideshow, the company probably considered Kristofferson an established artist; after all, two of his last three albums had gone gold, and he had hit number one in the country singles charts the year before with the gold-selling "Why Me" while at the same time topping the country albums charts twice, with Jesus Was a Capricorn and his duo album with Rita Coolidge, Full Moon.

The Blue Boys were Jim Reeves road band and at differing times had various personnel. Initially, Reeves called his band the Wagon Masters, but to avoid confusion in Nashville with Porter Wagoner, he renamed it in 1958, after his hit Blue Boy. The band initially comprised Billy Harlan (bass), Royce Morgan (guitar), Jimmy Day (steel guitar) and Pee Wee Kershaw (drums). Until shortly before the new name, Leo Jackson was Reeves lead guitarist but at the time of the formation, he was doing military service and Morgan was deputizing.

When Cajun music gets progressive—and we’re thinking of a couple landmark albums that the Bluerunners and Steve Riley made in the late ’90s—that usually means adding some rock influence and allowing for studio possibilities. By that standard, the Lost Bayou Ramblers’ latest is clear off the charts: Not since Dr. John’s storied debut—which coincidentally also included a piece based on the Kalenda legend—have Louisiana traditions been so thoroughly psychedelicized.

“It all started when Apollo Noir, Tigersushi’s latest signing came to me with a split 12” he wanted to release, including his own track “Inspiring Images & Visual Power. Chosen With Love & Dedication” and Glass’ “Heart”. I loved the tunes but wasn’t convinced that releasing a 12inch for those 2 songs only was relevant, so I proposed we extend this split EP to a full French Ambient compilation and we all got excited by the idea. There’s never been one although there’s an undeniable interest in that genre from a broad spectrum of French musicians. A few days later, me, Apollo Noir and Charlotte (Tigersushi’s lieutenant in chief) compiled a short list of names we were interested in and within just a few weeks we put together this compilation. Amazingly, 95% of the artists we contacted agreed to participate.

“The anonymous producer, whose work has has already received online approval from legendary british IDM auteur Aphex Twin, offers up his debut album. Brainwaltzera’s debut LP “Poly-ana" follows quickly on the heels of the producer’s Aescoba EP - also released this year via FILM (Steve Reich/Terry Riley/Grandbrothers) Across thirteen tracks of both previously released material and fresh excursions into the artist’s world, Brainwaltzera explores sounds ranging from luscious, downtempo grooves and expertly reduced braindance cuts with nods to early 90’s experimental IDM to harder, more caustic outings - all bound together by a recurring theme of otherworldly ambience.

Following his 2012 Chandos release of the numbered rhapsodies and sonatas of Béla Bartók, James Ehnes presents a second volume that presents the masterful Sonata for Solo Violin, BB 124, along with less significant works for violin and piano. The sonata was written in 1944 on a commission from Yehudi Menuhin, and as Bartók's last composition for the instrument, it reflects his accumulated knowledge of string writing and the organic development of ideas over his lifetime. Indeed, listeners familiar with the indispensable six string quartets and the Music for strings, percussion, and celesta may well recognize certain expressions, motives, forms, and techniques, as if this solo work in all its compression and austerity was actually a distillation or final working out of those works' essential material.

During a visit to Los Angeles in June 1983, clarinetist Chuck Hedges crossed paths with pianist extraordinaire Johnny Varro on two occasions. First, they played a gig at Gatsby's, a Brentwood club where Varro was a regular – and after that, they entered a Hollywood studio with bassist Ray Leatherwood and drummer Gene Estes and recorded this excellent album, which was released as the Magna Graphic album The Square Roots of Jazz in 1983 before being reissued as the Delmark CD Skylark in 1995.
