This new album features Mexican jazz music for piano and saxophone performed by Nup Duet, which consists of Ernesto Ramos and Felipe Gordillo. Born in Mexico City Ernesto began his musical studies at the age of 8 playing Clarinet in the Xochimilco Youth Symphony where he began his development as a musician. He began his formal studies in Clarinet at the Superior School of Music but after a few years changed to the Saxophone studying at the Jazz Workshop. Since then Ernesto has become one of his countrys greatest Jazz musicians. He has participated in various international jazz festivals such as the International Jazz Festival Acapulco, Jazz Festival Tonic Guadalajara, Jazz Festival Queretaro, and others.

Everything around us is subject to this process- the seasons, the people, our feelings …What changes in this work is not only the sound of the saxophone which like a new Ulysses, ventures between ports and unexplored countries, continually rediscovering its nature, but also the compositions themselves, which although belonging to a more or less recent past, are returned as new, sometimes immersed in a sparkling light, sometimes in a deep shadow.

In 2013, La Santa Cecilia's Treinta Dias won a Grammy for Best Latin Rock Album. While the recognition was welcome, it was ill-fitting: La Santa Cecilia are a great pop band no matter what language they sing in. (Their ingenious cover of the Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever," from 2014's equally wonderful Someday New, proved it.) During the past two years, these Los Angelinos have become road warriors, playing clubs, concert halls, and festival stages across the U.S., Latin America, Canada, and Europe. “I wanted to break all structure, to see if all form can be destroyed.” Says K-X-P frontman, Timo Kaukolampi, of his debut solo album. A desire to deconstruct convention is not a new thing for Kaukolampi, given that the Finnish band have been blurring the lines between techno, krautrock, space rock and experimental electronica for the last decade and forging an idiosyncratic and unique sound truly of their own.

Among his best known works are the film soundtracks for Juan Antonio Bayona’s films: The Orphanage, The Impossible and A Monster Calls, for which he won the Goya Film Award for Best Original Composition in 2017.

This compilation of 12 Lieder and Six Moments Musicaux performed by soprano Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and pianist Edwin Fischer is old-fashioned in every sense of the word. Recorded in 1950 and 1952, the sound is old-fashioned: clear but distant, heard across all the intervening decades as if through a dark glass. But, more significantly, the performances are old-fashioned. The slight but sweet quiver in Schwarzkopf's voice was typical of its time but unlike anything any contemporary soprano would attempt. In the An die Musik, she flirts with preciousness. In Im Frühling, she comes close to coyness. In Ganymed, she touches on parody.

A delightful anthology of lovely songs transcribed for clarinet and strings by Fabian Müller that will surely be welcomed by all lovers of the clarinet – and indeed perhaps appeal to followers of the morning radio programmes of Classic FM, who often feature miniature masterpieces of this kind. Fabio Di Càsola creates a true vocal line. He plays gently and phrases persuasively, with warmly beautiful timbre, so that one hardly misses the words of these outstanding songs (except perhaps in Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’, Grieg’s ‘Ich liebe dich’ and Schumann’s ‘Mondnacht’).

The Norwegian singer/songwriter/guitarist KERSTIN BLODIG presents her debut-album on Stockfisch. The recordings took place in a clearing in one of Germany’s largest forest areas - in Solling. The rich natural atmosphere - including birdsong & sounds from the vegetation - fits wonderfully to Kerstin’s haunting Norwegian songs and soulful acoustic-guitar playing. We have already had the pleasure of experiencing guitar legend DON ROSS as accompanist for Brooke Miller in Northeim, and now he has played in his own solo-CD. This is virtuoso guitar music coupled with a warm voice, including a cover of Sting’s “If You Love Somebody”. Stockfisch is particularly proud and happy to welcome the famous American singer-songwriter CARRIE NEWCOMER to the fold. Her rich velvety voice and heartfelt songs captivate audiences world-wide. A further international star was in Northeim: TONY CHRISTIE - yes the Tony Christie! He came to the Stockfisch studios together with the musicians from RANAGRI to make an album of Irish songs. Tony has strong Irish roots and interprets the songs with his very individual voice supported by wonderful acoustic arrangements.

Jacqueline Toussaint and Claude Villevieille's curiosity for the music of talented but little-known composers has given rise to this CD whose repertoire is varied in both musical style and origin with works ranging from those of Bach's youngest son (Johann Christian) to those of Anton Reicha, born in the same year as Beethoven. The inclusion of works by the French Composers Jadin, Widerkehr, and Ozi renders yet more captivating the content of this original recital.

These two piano concertos date from an earlier period than the two violin concertos already released in this series. Piano Concerto No. 2 was composed in 1879 and shows the composer very close to his Leipzig school roots, while No. 4 dates from 1906. Like the later of the two violin concertos, it’s more concisely structured than its predecessor, but otherwise is written in much the same style. What distinguishes Röntgen’s music here, as elsewhere, is its strong melodic personality, and the sense that, even though the idiom is conservative, the composer has no damaging inhibitions. This is simply who he is..

For an artist who's doggedly album-oriented, plus a songwriter who revels in subtlety, Van Morrison doesn't seem like a logical candidate for a successful greatest-hits compilation. Nevertheless, The Best of Van Morrison is a crackerjack compilation, tracing Van the Man from his days with Them, through his best-known tunes ("Brown-Eyed Girl," "Moondance," "Blue Money," "Wild Night"), to highlights from the '70s and '80s cult efforts, topped off by "Wonderful Remark," a song first heard on the King of Comedy soundtrack. This collection makes Morrison's work seem a little more immediate and accessible than it usually is, but that's a blessing, since it provides a great summary of his hits and a nice introduction for the curious. Yes, it could have dug deeper into the catalog, but as a sampler, it can't be faulted.
