"In Rock" marks another rebirth for Raccomandata, that finally returns with brand new unreleased material after almost a decade. The B-side of this release contains a cover of the famous "Mr. Crowley" by Ozzy Osbourne and the songs "Raoul" and "La spiaggia", taken from the full-length version of "Il Pittore Volante" but that never appeared on vinyl before…

Kayo Dot, the endlessly eclectic project of composer and producer Toby Driver, was formed in 2003 by the members of the legendary aethereal metal band Maudlin Of The Well. Since then, the group's muse has shown its face through slow and massive cascades of guitars and violins, and soundscapes spanning from tripped-out goth fusion, informed by Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew," to hyper-fast, angular and atonal suicidal black metal.

All Blues, a brand new album of Peter Frampton’s favourite blues classics, is out now by the Peter Frampton Band via UMe. The first release, a remake of the much-covered staple ‘I Just Want To Make Love To You’ (written by Willie Dixon and first recorded by Muddy Waters) features a guest appearance by Kim Wilson. This was followed by the band’s instrumental reading of the classic ‘Georgia On My Mind.’

In the '60s, Eumir Deodato and Marcos Valle were one of Brazil's potent combinations – they enjoyed the type of strong rapport that Antonio Carlos Jobim had with João Gilberto and Flora Purim has with Airto Moreira. This collection of '60s recordings paints an attractive picture of Deodato's collaborations with Valle. Regrettably, Irma doesn't provide exact recording dates – which is extremely frustrating – but the music is excellent. While Valle is the composer, Deodato is the arranger/conductor. In addition to playing acoustic and electric piano and organ, Deodato oversees a predominantly Brazilian big band that includes heavyweights like trombonist Raul DeSouza and drummers Ivan Conti (of Azymuth fame) and Dom Um Romão.

Among the many popular Columbia recordings reissued in the Masterworks Expanded Edition, Murray Perahia's exceptional performances of Mozart's piano concertos surely merit the renewed attention. Over the 1970s Perahia recorded the entire cycle of concertos, and these have been favored by many for almost three decades for their consistent clarity, sincere expression, and abundant excitement. Conducted and played with a refined Classical sensibility, Perahia's readings with the English Chamber Orchestra are all bright and energetic, and these performances of the richly expressive Piano Concerto No. 9 in E flat major, K. 271, and the majestic Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467, are representative of the wonders to be found in the complete set.

For those who are into the melodic rock/AOR scene the name of Unruly Child is no stranger at all. Originally formed back in 1993, Unruly Child released some excellent albums over the years. It’s impossible to have a conversation about the power metal revival of the early millennial era without Freedom Call receiving at least a passing mention. They stood apart from the pack of German speed metal informed acts by taking the lighter elements of Helloween’s Keepers Of The Seven Keys sound to their logical conclusion, almost to the point of coming off as AOR with an occasional Gospel flavor played at a faster tempo. The magic that made their unique take on the style so auspicious laid mostly in guitarist/vocalist Chris Bay’s prowess as a studio engineer (he simultaneously gave Saxon’s 1999 smash album Metalhead an upgrade with his capability on the keyboards) and his uniquely light and airy voice, though the driving fury of Dan Zimmerman’s kit work and his then ongoing stints with Gamma Ray and Iron Savior definitely helped to promote the Freedom Call brand from the get go…
