Billy Cobham, the pioneering jazz-rock fusion drummer who left all his rivals and imitators in the dust when he surfaced in the 1970s, always sounded like a complete musician rather than simply a technical miracle. Approaching 70, he still does. Cobham and a hard-rocking quartet are at Ronnie Scott's, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the drummer's bandleading debut album, Spectrum, by playing most of the music from it, and a little new material besides.
What made this flat-out show so much more than a routine tribute-band trot through a famous tracklist was the enthusiastic drive of the band.

Swing Out Sister's 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection features 11 of the group's lighthearted synth pop singles, including the hit "Breakout." Songs like "Waiting Game," "Surrender," and "You on My Mind" follow suit, while their cover of "La la Means I Love You" tries too hard to be soulful and emotional. Overall, this is a decent collection, but the 1998 import The Best of Swing Out Sister remains the definitive best-of for this group.

On this new release Baltic Baroque Ensemble presents this delightful and not so well-known four sonatas by Antonio Vivaldi for two violins with optional basso continuo. Sonata RV 70 bears the title Prima Suonata Da Camera a 2 Violini anco senza Basso se piace Del Vivaldi − the first chamber sonata for two violins, if desired, to be played without the bass, work by Vivaldi. The titles of the other sonatas vary a little containing an amendment: da suonarsi anco senza Basso (may optionally be performed without the bass). Sonata RV 71 has been numbered 2 by the composer, RV 68, in its turn, 3 and RV 77 has not been given a number at all.

Billy Bragg releases a new album Best of Billy Bragg at the BBC 1983-2019. The 38-track collection is ‘fully remastered’ and features 38 tracks compiled from the BBC archive spanning 1983 – 2019. It includes selected highlights from sessions for John Peel, David Jensen, Janice Long, Phill Jupitus, Bob Harris, Tom Robinson and more. Many are previously unreleased. The collection draws from all corners of Billy’s catalogue and features, among many gems, his signature song A New England (later covered to huge acclaim by Kirsty MacColl), Levi Stubbs’ Tears, and his workers’ anthem There Is Power In A Union, with a couple of atypical covers thrown in, namely John Cale’s Fear Is A Man’s Best Friend and A13, his personal psycho-geography take on Route 66.

The Strong Tenor is an appropriate title for this compilation capturing tenor saxophonist Ike Quebec from 1943 through 1946. This is the first era of Quebec's career as a leader, and featured soloist in bands led by Roy Eldridge, Jonah Jones, Cab Calloway, Hot Lips Page, Trummy Young, and Sammy Price. The album also includes his hit "Blue Harlem" recorded for Blue Note in 1944. Quebec would succumb to drug abuse in the '50s only to make a brief comeback in the early '60s as a leader on several Blue Note sessions.
